A friend wrote on the bottom of their Christmas letter that they refer to Scolty as "Laurie's hill" -- I like that. Standing atop it today with views across to the snow on Cloch na Ben and Lochnagar is all it takes to feel fully resettled! Lots happening over the weekend -- offered part time work(13.5 hours / week) assisting with the Family and Children's ministry at the East Church. This is extremely exciting to me and a real answer to prayer. My role is to help cultivate the community of families already worshiping within the East church, and to encourage the team of teachers -- both by way of internal preparation for the work of a full time Children and Families outreach worker position that is currently being advertised. Wonderful opportunity to return home to.
Other great things since returning: Saturday night's Ceilidh with good friends and dinner at the Zieglers beforehand -- yellow Gerbera Daisies (my favourite flower!) from Laura Marshall as a 'thanks' for leading the 20's bible study. They bring springtime into the cottage while the ground outside is frozen! -- Seminar last Thursday to restart the studies (the tension headache afterward as a result of being first up to bring a translated article for German reading wasn't actually a highlight -- but finding a German friend here in Banchory who will sit and read with me sure is!)
Coffee with Peter to catch up on his time in Florence, and later games with he, Paula, Stuart and Craig -- Catch-up with Nicola before she left for Nigeria -- dinner with Christine and Kate when I was too jet-lagged to feed myself anything except toasted tuna and cheese sandwiches! -- Sunday afternoon walk around Scolty with Carolyn while Mark and Alex explored the biking trails, followed by carrot cake, tea and great conversation at Finzean farm shop / tea house. I'm spoiled for friends ...Update on Sandy -- They saw an improvement in Sandy yesterday and felt he was understanding what they were saying. Occasionally he opened his eyes and Jeannie felt he tried to smile. He managed to say yes in response to a question. The doctors are pleased with his progress. Incidentally he too has a fractured fibula but no other damage to his body other than a lot of bruising. We are praying for miracles...
Jeannie's going to have some fluid drained from her arm this afternoon. As well as her leg she has some pain on the side she was operated on and thinks she's jarred it. The reality of what happened has begun to register today and she's quite shaky.

Glad to hear you're back in Scotland and getting back in the swing of things. Hope that German translation doesn't become too stressful. It's hard to get back to school, I know. I just started my last semester of seminars!!!
What is on my heart upon hearing about Sandy is how his soul is not "in time" for God, even though it very much is for his dear wife and his friends. What I mean to say is how clear it is that God has known his soul always, and always will. Remembering that he is hearing every word at his bedside, and every word from the Father as well.
