Anyhoo ... One verse talks about exhorting one another while it is called "today". We discussed how tricky it is to ask the deeper questions of one another where life and faith are concerned. So at the end of the evening, when the group was agreeing on a tangible challenge to take on board for the week, I suggested they take an opportunity this week to risk asking the potentially awkward question.
Remember that these are Scots. The Scottish are hard-wired to avoid the awkward. So the suggested was met by a rather awkward moment.
Followed by one of the guys aptly summarizing the question on everyone's mind: "So, what -- we just think up an awkward question and look for a chance to ask it?"
Beautiful.
Despite further clarification, the counter proposal that we translate "exhort" as "encourage" and look for an opportunity each day to encourage someone else was received with great relief all around.

Of course, no one was willing to suggest we rescind my original thought -- that would have been too awkward. So it is 2 challenges this week!
GOOD NEWS ON SANDY
He said Jeannie's name today! And Jeannie had her first good night's sleep. The hospital is now talking rehab unit, and the family is overwhelmed to think that a week ago, they thought they would lose him before morning. As Christine wrote in her update email today: "It's still early days but really this is more than we could have hoped for." Still praying -- with great hope.
